Suarez Scores Late as Inter Miami Draw with Austin FC in New Stadium Opener

Luis Suarez scored his first goal of the season to help Inter Miami secure a 2-2 draw against Austin FC as they officially opened their new stadium.

Suarez, 39, scored in the 81st minute to earn a point for the home side at the 26,700-seat stadium.

Lionel Messi had earlier scored his fifth goal in five MLS matches this season to cancel out Austin’s early lead.

Austin took the lead in the sixth minute through Guiherme Biro, while Jayden Nelson put them ahead again early in the second half. Messi later equalised with a header from a cross by Ian Fray.

Suarez then came off the bench and scored from close range after a corner to make sure Inter Miami shared the points.

Inter Miami, who played at Chase Stadium before moving to their new ground, are now fourth in the table after six matches.

The club is co-owned by former England captain David Beckham, who said the new stadium is a dream come true after years of planning.
