Sunday Oliseh resigns two months into new job after five straight league losses in German 4th tier
Sunday Oliseh has resigned two months into a new job with SV Straelen after five straight league losses in the German 4th tier division.
The former Dortmund player got the job in June 2022 four years after his last job but he didn’t stay beyond five fixtures after a poor start to the season.
SV Straelen through a statement announced that Sunday Oliseh has left his post.
Below is the statement from the club website:
“Ex-Bundesliga professional Sunday Oliseh is no longer a coach at western regional league club SV Straelen.
The 47-year-old, who during his active career became African champion and Olympic champion with the national team of Nigeria and won the German championship with Borussia Dortmund in 2002, announced his resignation after the 2-0 loss at Fortuna Düsseldorf’s U23s.
In the fifth game of the season it was the fifth defeat for the bottom of the table (with 1:7 goals).
In the DFB Cup, the border countries showed their best performance of the season against second division FC St. Pauli (3:4), but were eliminated in the first round, so that Oliseh left the club without a sense of achievement.
The sporting director Kevin Wolze, who was still part of the squad as a player last season but then had to end his career due to injury, initially took over the training management together with assistant coach Adli Lachheb.
After today’s first-round game of the defending champion in the Niederrheinpokal at the Essen district league club DJK Sportfreunde Katernberg 13/19 (kick-off at 7.15 p.m.), SV Straelen in the league continues with the game on Saturday, 2 p.m., against the championship favorites SC Preußen Münster.”
