Sunday Oliseh tips Real Madrid star for Ballon d’Or win
Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has praised Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, suggesting he could win the Ballon d’Or after his exceptional performance in their thrilling 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
Vinicius has been a key figure for Real Madrid throughout the season, amassing an impressive tally of 21 goals and 11 assists in 36 appearances for Los Blancos.
His stellar form continued on Wednesday as Real Madrid hosted Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite falling behind when Alphonso Davies scored in the 68th minute, the 14-time Champions displayed their resilience, netting two late goals within three minutes to secure a memorable victory.
While Joselu found the back of the net twice, it was Vinicius’ relentless attacking presence that unsettled Bayern Munich’s defense and kept them under constant pressure. The Brazilian forward recorded six goal attempts, 58 touches, seven dribbles, and two key passes during the match.
Despite not registering a goal or assist, Vinicius was awarded the man of the match accolade for his impactful display.
Expressing his admiration for Vinicius, former Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh took to social media to commend the 23-year-old’s performance.
“Wow! Extraordinary Ballon D’or worthy Vinicius Jr, extraordinary coach Carlo Ancelotti, and an absolute top Real Madrid! Turned defeat to legendary victory in three minutes. I love Real’s non-stop variety football philosophy. A tactical blast watching Real Beat Bayern Munich,” Oliseh wrote.
Real Madrid is now set to face another German opponent, Borussia Dortmund, in the final at Wembley on June 1st.
