Sunshine Stars FC sacks Coach Edith Agoye

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Sunshine Stars of Akure, have sacked coach Edith Agoye. SportsRation reports on Monday, January 22, 2024.

The decision was made after the club’s recent 1-0 defeat to Kwara United, leaving them with just one point away from the relegation zone in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The club’s management asked Agoye to step aside on Monday following a poor run of form that saw the club win just one of the last seven Nigeria Premier Football League matches.

His last game saw Sunshine Stars bow 1-0 vs Kwara United FC in Illorin on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

The former Shooting Stars Sports Club head coach will now leave his hometown club, with tension around the club circle after what they consider a poor first stanza of the 2023/2024 NPFL season.

Agoye last season led the Stars to the NPFL Super Six title playoffs, but could not march same run of form in the current season which has reached its halfway mark.

Following the sack of Edith Agoye, Sunshine Stars FC, SportsRation gathered is actively considering three potential replacements.

Among the candidates are Kennedy Boboye, a former champion with Plateau United, Duke Udi, and Deji Ayeni. The change in coaching staff is seen as a strategic move to address the team’s inconsistent performance and avoid relegation to the Nigeria National League (NNL) at the end of the season.

Sunshine Stars FC is currently positioned 12th on the NPFL24 log. Their next game is vs Kwara United FC on Febuary 4th, 2024, enough time for the new coach search with the second half of the season in sight.
