Super Eagles Arrive in Morocco Ahead of AFCON 2025

The Super Eagles of Nigeria arrived in Fes, Morocco, on Thursday night as preparations continue for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

A training session planned for the day of arrival was postponed due to the team’s late landing. However, the squad will now hold two training sessions on Friday, scheduled for 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, as they settle into their base.

The Super Eagles travelled from Cairo, Egypt, where they spent four days in camp as part of their final preparations. While in Egypt, Nigeria played a pre-AFCON friendly against the Pharaohs and lost 2–1, with defender Chidozie Awaziem scoring Nigeria’s only goal.

Several regular starters were rested for the friendly, while more players joined the squad afterwards. Simon Moses, Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen all linked up with the team on Wednesday, strengthening head coach Éric Chelle’s options.

Nigeria will continue preparations in Fes, where all their Group C matches will be played. The Super Eagles will face Tanzania on December 23, Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30.

The 2025 AFCON will begin on Sunday, December 21, with hosts Morocco taking on Comoros in the opening match at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah. Other group matches, including Egypt’s clash with Zimbabwe, will be played the following day.

Nigeria will be aiming for a fourth AFCON title, having previously won the competition in 1980, 1994 and 2013. The Super Eagles finished runners-up at the last tournament in Ivory Coast and will be eager to go one step further in Morocco and end a 12-year wait for continental glory.
