Super Eagles camp open for Benin Republic and Rwanda games
The Super Eagles have officially opened their training camp in Abidjan as they prepare for a vital 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin Republic.
Two players, defender Victor Collins from Nasarawa United and midfielder Alhassan Yusuf of the New England Revolution, arrived in the Ivorian capital on Monday morning, where they were welcomed by the coaching staff.
Interim manager Augustine Eguavoen, who recently returned from medical leave in Belgium, accompanied his coaching team to ensure a well-organized camp ahead of the crucial match scheduled for this Thursday.
Collins and Yusuf are expected to be joined by the rest of the squad later on Monday, with training sessions set to kick off on Tuesday.
Collins, the only home-based player selected in the 23-man squad, is receiving his first call-up for these qualifiers, as Eguavoen aims to bolster the Super Eagles’ defensive options.
Nigeria heads into Thursday’s encounter with a clear objective: to secure at least a draw to confirm their spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco. Currently, the Super Eagles are leading Group D with ten points and require just one more point to guarantee their qualification, putting them out of reach of their final-day opponents, Rwanda.
After the match against Benin, the Super Eagles will return to Nigeria via a chartered flight to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where they will host Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on November 18 for the final match of their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign
