Super Eagles Camp Stable as Chelle Fully Paid Ahead of AFCON Knockout Clash

Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations camp remains financially stable despite outstanding player bonuses, as Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has been fully paid and remains focused on the knockout stage of the tournament.

Reports from Morocco indicate that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has settled all salary obligations owed to Chelle, including his January 2026 salary. This development is expected to reduce off-field concerns as Nigeria prepare for their Round of 16 match against Mozambique.

A source within the Super Eagles camp in Fez confirmed that the coach is in a positive frame of mind and fully committed to leading the team deep into the competition.

Chelle guided Nigeria through a perfect group-stage campaign, winning all three matches, including a 3-1 victory over Uganda. He will now lead the Super Eagles into Monday’s knockout tie against Mozambique.

The coach is reported to have earned match bonuses of $20,000 per game, totalling $60,000, as well as a daily camp allowance of $400 since the team opened camp in early December. Chelle is also said to be on a monthly salary of $55,000 under a two-year contract, with all outstanding payments now cleared.

The Nigerian government has also released ₦3 billion to support Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 campaign in Morocco. However, further funding is expected to meet the increasing costs if the team progresses further in the tournament.

While coaching salaries have been settled, Super Eagles players are yet to receive their tournament bonuses. These include a promised $30,000 per player for reaching the Round of 16.

No appearance or win bonuses have been paid so far, although discussions between the players and the NFF are ongoing. The federation had initially proposed a $15,000 bonus for qualification, but this was later increased following negotiations.

More bonuses are expected if Nigeria defeat Mozambique, with further incentives planned for a quarter-final place. If they advance, Nigeria will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the next round.

Nigeria are one of only two teams to win all three group matches and are among the favourites to lift the AFCON 2025 trophy. The Super Eagles last won the title in 2013 under the late Stephen Keshi.
