Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle Happy with 2-0 Win Over Rwanda

Head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Eric Sekou Chelle, has expressed his happiness after his team secured a 2-0 win against Rwanda in Kigali on Friday evening.

The 47-year-old Malian was appointed in January to lead the three-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions. His main task is to help Nigeria qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after their poor start to the qualifiers.

A first-half brace from Victor Osimhen gave the Super Eagles all three points in the important Group C match. Chelle was pleased to begin his time in charge of Nigeria with a victory.

What Coach Chelle Said

“It was a very difficult game because Rwanda have a strong team and a good coach,” Chelle said after the match. “But we also played very well. I’m very happy and proud of my players, my staff, and the Nigerian people.”

The former Mali coach added, “We only had one week and two training sessions to prepare, but we shared a lot of information. We had a clear game plan and the players followed it perfectly. So, I believe this win was deserved.”

What’s Next for Nigeria

Next, Chelle and the Super Eagles will face Zimbabwe on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. They will hope to secure another win to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

While the three points against Rwanda were important, Chelle knows the team still have a long journey ahead. Any mistakes in future games could damage their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
