Super Eagles Crush Gabon 4–1 to Keep World Cup Dream Alive

Nigeria’s Super Eagles came alive in extra time to record a stunning 4–1 victory over Gabon and stay on course for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match, played on Thursday evening at the Complexe Sportif Prince Héritier Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat, was a thriller that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

After a cagey first half with few chances, substitute Akor Adams gave Nigeria the breakthrough in the 78th minute, finishing neatly after a swift counterattack. Gabon, however, refused to give up and levelled through Mario Lemina in the 88th minute, forcing the game into extra time.

Victor Osimhen missed a golden opportunity to win it for Nigeria right at the end of normal time, firing wide when clean through on goal. But the Napoli striker made up for that miss in emphatic fashion.

In extra time, Chidera Ejuke fired the Super Eagles ahead with a composed finish, sparking wild celebrations on the bench. Osimhen then took control, scoring twice in quick succession to seal a commanding 4–1 win for Nigeria and complete a memorable night in Rabat.

The result means Eric Chelle’s men advance to Sunday’s playoff final, where they will battle for a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.

It was a spirited display from the Super Eagles, who showed grit, teamwork, and attacking power to overcome a determined Gabonese side.

Osimhen’s brace, Ejuke’s strike, and Akor Adams’ opener underlined Nigeria’s attacking quality and reignited belief among supporters that World Cup qualification is within reach.
