Super Eagles duo Ejuke and Iheanacho star in Sevilla’s dramatic draw against Athletic Club

Super Eagles stars Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho played pivotal roles in Sevilla’s thrilling 1-1 draw against Athletic Club at San Mames.

Both Nigerian internationals were named in the starting lineup, with Ejuke delivering a crucial performance that helped Los Rojiblancos secure a valuable point late in the match.

Chidera Ejuke was the standout performer, continuing his fine form for Sevilla. The 26-year-old winger, who came off the bench last week to score a late winner against Real Valladolid, once again proved decisive. In this fixture, it was his dangerous cross in stoppage time that forced an own goal from Athletic Club’s Alex Padilla, leveling the score for Sevilla just as it seemed they were heading for defeat.

Throughout the match, Ejuke was a constant threat to Athletic’s defense, using his pace and skill to create opportunities. His relentless pressure paid off in the dying moments, as his cross led to a defensive mishap, sealing a dramatic equalizer for Sevilla.

Kelechi Iheanacho also featured prominently, showcasing his link-up play and work rate as part of Sevilla’s attacking line. Although Iheanacho didn’t get on the scoresheet, his movement and positioning helped stretch the Athletic defense, creating space for his teammates to exploit.

Athletic Club initially took the lead in the 36th minute through a powerful strike from Mikel Jauregizar. Sevilla struggled to find a breakthrough until Ejuke’s late intervention turned the tide.

Sevilla’s efforts in the second half, including a close attempt by Dodi Lukebakio and a strong showing from the Super Eagles duo, kept them in the game. Julen Agirrezabala’s late red card for a reckless challenge gave Sevilla the numerical advantage, and they took full advantage to snatch the draw.

The performance of Ejuke and Iheanacho will give Sevilla hope as they continue their La Liga campaign, with both players showing their value to the team.
