The presentation took place on December 22, 2025, at the team’s hotel in Fez, Morocco, ahead of Nigeria’s opening match in the new Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
President Tinubu approved the rewards following Nigeria’s runners up finish at the 2023 AFCON tournament held in Côte d’Ivoire in January and February 2024.
The brief ceremony was led by Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko. Officials in attendance included Senator Abdul Ningi, chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu of the House Committee on Sports, Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale, Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau, and representatives of the Nigerian High Commission.
Ahmed Musa and Victor Osimhen were awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger, having previously received the MON. Team captain William Troost Ekong received the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic after emerging as Player of the Tournament.
Dikko confirmed that housing allocations in Abuja or Lagos and land grants in Abuja had been fully processed, with allocation letters issued to all beneficiaries.
