Super Eagles have first training session in Uyo ahead of 2025 AFCON qualifiers

The Super Eagles camp in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, is buzzing with energy as 20 players held their first training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Tuesday evening, ahead of the crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The training session marks the beginning of an intense preparation period, as the team gears up to secure their place in the 2025 AFCON tournament. The early arrivals in camp signal the players’ dedication and commitment to the national team’s success.

Monday saw the arrival of key players including Victor Boniface, Wilfred Ndidi, Amos Obasogie, and Stanley Nwabali, who joined the initial seven players that had already touched down in Uyo earlier in the day. These early birds were led by Captain William Troost-Ekong, who was accompanied by Taiwo Awoniyi, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Olisa Ndah.

Tuesday brought further reinforcements, with the arrival of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Frank Onyeka, bringing the total number of players in camp to 20. This solid turnout has set the stage for a rigorous training regime under the guidance of interim coach Austin Eguavoen and his assistants, Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu.

Team officials have expressed satisfaction with the players’ prompt arrival, noting that it reflects their determination to achieve positive results in the upcoming qualifiers. The remaining three players out of the 23-man squad are expected to join the camp soon, further boosting the team’s preparations.

With the first training session now completed, the Super Eagles are fully focused on fine-tuning their strategies and building cohesion as they aim for victory in the AFCON qualifiers. The team’s next steps will be crucial as they prepare to face Benin Republic and Rwanda in matches that will determine their path to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
