Super Eagles maintain 42nd position in FIFA Year-End rankings
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have concluded the year 2023 in the 42nd position in the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) rankings for men’s national teams.
This information was revealed in the latest rankings published on FIFA’s official website on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
Nigeria maintained the same position as the previous month, with Jose Peseiro’s side securing the 42nd spot. In the continental rankings, the Super Eagles also retained the sixth position in Africa.
The top five teams in Africa, in descending order, are Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.
The Super Eagles will be looking to enhance their standing in the FIFA rankings with a strong performance at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire next month.
Nigeria has been drawn into Group A alongside the hosts, Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.
On the global stage, Argentina continues to lead the FIFA rankings as the top team in the world, followed by France, England, Brazil, and Belgium.
The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Croatia complete the top ten teams in the world.
The next FIFA Men’s World Ranking is scheduled to be published on February 15, 2024.
