Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka Joins Augsburg on season-long loan from Brentford
Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has completed a deadline day move to Bundesliga side FC Augsburg, joining on a season-long loan from Premier League club Brentford.
The 26-year-old Nigerian international, who moved to Brentford in the summer of 2021 from Danish side FC Midtjylland, has been a crucial squad member for the Bees since their return to the Premier League. However, Onyeka never fully established himself as a regular starter under manager Thomas Frank, prompting him to seek a new challenge.
Throughout the summer transfer window, Onyeka was linked with several clubs, including La Liga’s Valencia. However, FC Augsburg, who finished midtable in the Bundesliga last season, secured his signature just hours before the transfer deadline. Onyeka will join his new team after the international break, as he has been named in the Super Eagles squad for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda on September 7th and 10th, respectively.
