Super Eagles Set for Crucial World Cup Qualifiers Against Rwanda and Zimbabwe

The Super Eagles will face two important World Cup qualifiers in March, starting with an away match against Rwanda on March 21, 2025, in Kigali. They will then return home to host Zimbabwe on March 25, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

The Super Eagles, currently sitting fifth in their World Cup qualifying group, are in a tough battle to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With just three points from four matches, they trail Rwanda, South Africa, Benin, and Lesotho, and need to collect vital points in their next fixtures to stay in contention. Zimbabwe currently sit at the bottom of the group.

Nigeria has a mixed history against Rwanda, having played them seven times in total. Surprisingly, the Super Eagles have won only two of those encounters, with four draws and one loss. The most recent match between the two teams was in November 2024 during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where Rwanda won 2-1.

With six more matches remaining in the World Cup qualifying rounds, Nigeria will need to secure as many points as possible, with only one team guaranteed automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The second-placed team will have to go through a playoff stage to earn a spot.

The upcoming matches are crucial for the Super Eagles as they aim to improve their position and push for World Cup qualification.

Already, Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle has named his provisional squad for both matches.
