Super Eagles set to host Libya in crucial AFCON qualifier in Uyo

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to host the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in a pivotal 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

This encounter marks matchday three in the qualifiers, and both teams are eager to secure crucial points as they aim for qualification to the tournament proper, scheduled for December 2025 in Morocco.

Nigeria currently tops Group D with four points from two matches, following a commanding 3-0 win against Benin Republic in their opening game and a goalless draw against Rwanda in their second. Libya, on the other hand, sits at the bottom of the group, having collected just one point from their first two outings.

The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, will look to capitalize on their home advantage in Uyo to strengthen their grip on the top spot. Only the group winners will advance to the tournament in Morocco, adding extra significance to the fixture. The reverse match against Libya is set for October 15 at the Tripoli International Stadium.

With Austin Eguavoen potentially continuing as interim head coach, the Super Eagles are expected to build on their solid performances in the previous qualifiers. The Nigerian team remains confident, buoyed by their high standing in the FIFA World Rankings, where they are currently ranked 39th in the world, ahead of African rivals such as Ghana, South Africa, Cameroon, and Algeria.

This match against Libya offers Nigeria Super Eagles the chance to extend their lead at the top of the group and inch closer to securing a place in the prestigious AFCON tournament.
