Super Eagles star and wife commence divorce suit at Abuja court

Super Eagles star Olanrewaju Kayode and his wife have appeared before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory seeking a divorce.

Nigerian footballer Olanrewaju Kayode, who plays in Turkey, has accused his wife, Ezinne, of having an affair with a UK-based Nigerian pastor. In a court filing at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, Kayode named Pastor Tobi Adegboyega as a co-respondent in the case against his wife.

Ezinne had earlier filed her own petition, accusing Kayode of abuse and involvement with fetish objects. She described finding a box with strange items like a padlock in black powder and other objects wrapped in red material. She said these items made her fear for her life, thinking they were meant to harm her and make her leave their home.

Ezinne, who is also a lawyer, claimed she worked as Kayode’s manager without proper pay and is now seeking a divorce. She wants custody of their three children and a court order to prevent Kayode from harassing or abusing her. She also requested financial support for the children’s upkeep.

Kayode denied the allegations and filed a counter-petition, accusing Ezinne of adultery with Pastor Adegboyega and other men. He claimed she cut off the CCTV cameras in their home to hide her activities. Kayode also said Ezinne abused alcohol and attended late-night parties while he was away playing football.

Kayode further accused Ezinne of taking control of their joint business ventures and properties, spending the income on her alleged affairs. He expressed frustration over the emotional and financial strain caused by her actions.

In a live interview on Instagram, Kayode reiterated his accusations against his wife, saying he had proof of her relationship with Pastor Adegboyega. He explained that he had funded a trip to London for Ezinne and their children, only to discover she used the opportunity to meet with the pastor.

“I used my money to send them on vacation in London, she and the children, and she used the opportunity to meet with Tobi. Tobi’s wife even knew everything that was going on,” Kayode said.

He also addressed rumors about doubts over the paternity of his children, dismissing them as false. “I don’t have any doubt that these children are my boys and I don’t have any issue with that,” he stated.

A friend of the family mentioned that Kayode’s family initially opposed his marriage to Ezinne but he went ahead due to his love for her. The family remains supportive of him amid the ongoing legal battle.

The case is set for hearing on September 24 at the court of Justice Modupe Osho-Adebiyi. Pastor Adegboyega had not responded to the allegations at the time of this report.
