Super Eagles star Benjamin Tanimu sets ambitious goals at Crawley Town

New Crawley Town signing Benjamin Tanimu has expressed his excitement and determination to help the League One side achieve success after completing his move from Tanzanian club Singida Black Stars.

The Nigerian defender joined his teammates in the United Kingdom earlier this week and had his first training session on Tuesday.

Tanimu, who had been linked with several clubs across Africa, including Egyptian giants Zamalek, revealed in an interview with Crawley Town’s media team that moving to England was a significant step in his career.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” Tanimu shared. “Growing up in Nigeria, we all watched the English Premier League, so coming to England is a huge step for me. I’m very happy to join Crawley Town.”

The 26-year-old defender, who earned his call-up to the Super Eagles after an impressive spell in Tanzania, outlined his ambitions for his time at Crawley. He is eager to use this opportunity not only to propel his career but also to help the club aim higher.

“Coming to England is a great opportunity for me to showcase my abilities. I’m also here to help Crawley Town reach the highest level of English football, to get promotion,” Tanimu said.

Before moving to Tanzania, Tanimu was a key player for Bendel Insurance in the Nigeria Premier League, where he contributed to their remarkable 21-game unbeaten run and their 2023 Federation Cup triumph. He scored two goals in 19 appearances for the Benin-based club before embarking on his Tanzanian adventure.

Tanimu’s time in Tanzania, though brief, caught the attention of several clubs, but he ultimately chose Crawley, seeing it as the best platform to develop his career.

“I had offers from several African countries, but when I heard about Crawley’s interest, I thought, ‘Why not?’ So, I jumped at the chance. I’m a player who is always ready to learn, work hard to improve, and I love winning,” he added.

The Nigerian international has already earned three caps for the Super Eagles, featuring in friendlies and 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He is now eager to make his mark in English football and help Crawley Town push for promotion.
