Super Eagles star Fisayo Dele-Bashiru joins Lazio from Hatayspor

Super Eagles attacking midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has completed his loan transfer to Italian Serie A club Lazio from Turkish club Hatayaspor.

Dele-Bashiru’s career has been on the rise in recent years. Starting at the Manchester City Academy, he did not break into the first team and moved to English League One side Sheffield Wednesday in 2020. Since then, the 23-year-old has grown significantly. Last year, he transferred to Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor, quickly becoming an important member of the team.

Last season, Dele-Bashiru scored eight goals and provided five assists in 36 games for Hatayspor, helping them to a 15th place finish in the Super Lig. His impressive performance caught the attention of Lazio, and he has been linked with the Italian club throughout the summer.

On Friday, reports surfaced that Dele-Bashiru had arrived in Italy to undergo a medical and finalize his move to Lazio. The deal was completed on Saturday, and the club announced that Dele-Bashiru joined them on a season-long loan with a compulsory buy clause upon completion of the loan. The transfer could be worth up to €7 million and last until 2028.

Dele-Bashiru follows in the footsteps of fellow Nigerians Ogenyi Onazi, Stephen Makinwa, and Daniel Ola, who have also played for Lazio.

Despite being born in England and eligible to play for the English national team, Dele-Bashiru chose to represent Nigeria. He made his debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly against Mozambique in October 2023 and earned his second cap last month in Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa, where he scored the only goal for Nigeria wearing the number 10 jersey.
