Super Eagles stars Ndah and Nwabali Impress in Orlando Pirates’ 2-1 victory over Chippa United
Nigerian stars Olisa Ndah and Stanley Nwabali were key figures in Orlando Pirates’ hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chippa United in the South African Premier League.
Ndah captained the Orlando Pirates as they welcomed Chippa United to the Orlando Stadium for their season opener. Chippa United took an early lead, with Abdile Jali scoring the opener in the 22nd minute. However, Orlando Pirates equalized just before halftime when Tshegofatso Mabasa converted a penalty after winning a spot-kick in stoppage time.
The Pirates pushed forward relentlessly in the second half, but despite their best efforts, they struggled to find a breakthrough. Ndah himself had a chance but couldn’t trouble the goalkeeper. The persistence paid off in the final minutes, as Monnapule Saleng netted the winning goal to secure all three points for the hosts.
While Orlando Pirates celebrated the win, Nwabali, who was in goal for Chippa United, delivered a strong performance. The Nigerian goalkeeper made five saves, four from inside the box, emerging as Chippa United’s best player on the day.
Ndah also shone in his role, completing the match with a 95% pass accuracy and two blocked shots, further underlining his importance to the Orlando Pirates’ defence.
