Super Eagles Storm Into AFCON Quarter-Finals with 4-0 Rout of Mozambique

Nigeria booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique on Monday night, delivering one of their most complete displays of the tournament so far.
A brace from Victor Osimhen, coupled with goals from Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, ensured that the Super Eagles maintained their perfect record in Morocco. In doing so, Nigeria became the first team at this year’s tournament to win their opening four matches.
From the outset, Nigeria dominated proceedings. The early tempo was dictated by Alex Iwobi, while Lookman stretched the Mozambican defence with threatening runs down the left. Mozambique resisted the early pressure, but the Super Eagles’ intensity eventually paid off in the 20th minute. Iwobi threaded a precise through-ball to Akor Adams, whose unselfish pass allowed Lookman to calmly slot home for his third goal of the tournament, taking his direct goal contributions to five.
Just six minutes later, Nigeria doubled their advantage. Iwobi once again orchestrated the move, sending Lookman clear on the left. His low cross deflected into Osimhen’s path, and the striker reacted fastest to finish from close range.
The Super Eagles continued to press and create chances, but the first half ended with Mozambique still searching for a breakthrough. Any doubts were erased early in the second half when Lookman delivered a crisp cross for Osimhen, who calmly converted his second goal of the night and his 34th for Nigeria, bringing him just three goals shy of Rashidi Yekini’s all-time record.
Nigeria’s relentless attacking pressure paid off again in the 76th minute. Lookman provided another precise assist, this time finding Akor Adams, who fired in his first goal of the tournament. The strike made Nigeria the first team at AFCON 2025 to score four goals in a single match, extending the Super Eagles’ scoring streak at AFCON finals to 11 consecutive games, their longest ever.
With this emphatic win, Nigeria join Morocco, Senegal, Mali, Cameroon, and Egypt in the quarter-finals. The Super Eagles will learn their next opponents on Tuesday, following the clash between Algeria and DR Congo.
