Super Eagles youngster Raphael Onyedika completes switch to Champions League campaigners
Midfielder becomes third Nigerian to represent Club Brugge in recent seasons
Young Super Eagles invitee Raphael Onyedika has completed a transfer from FC Midjtylland to Belgian giants Club Brugge, ending a window of speculation over his future. The defensive midfielder moved for a fee of €9 million, signing a five-year deal until 2027.
Onyedika has impressed for Danish giants FC Midjtylland in recent seasons since joining from FC Ebedei in Nigeria’s third tier in 2019. The 21-year-old has seen his stock rise rapidly over the past three years, establishing himself as a key player for the Danish side.
Onyedika featured 48 times for FC Midjtylland in the 2021-22 season, earning a call-up to the Nigerian national team set-up for the first time, as a result. The youngster has also played nine times for the Danish club this season. He was coveted by Italian champions AC Milan, with the Rossoneri placing a bid of €6 million for his services.
Onyedika follows the footsteps of Nottingham Forest star Emmanuel Dennis and David Okereke in playing for Club Brugge. He also joins Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu, who features for KRC Genk, in the Belgian Jupiler League.
Raphael Onyedika will now feature in the UEFA Champions League this season, making him one of only eight Super Eagles stars who are contracted to clubs in the competition.
