Super Falcons Crush Zambia 5-0 to Reach WAFCON Semi-Finals

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a convincing 5-0 victory over Zambia’s Copper Queens in the quarter-finals.
The match, played in Casablanca, saw the Super Falcons dominate from the start, showcasing their skill and teamwork. The win was a sweet revenge for Nigeria, who lost to Zambia in the third-place playoff at the last WAFCON.
Osinachi Ohale opened the scoring in the second minute with a header from Esther Okoronkwo’s free-kick. Okoronkwo then doubled the lead after receiving a pass from captain Rasheedat Ajibade.
Chinwendu Ihezuo made it 3-0 just before half-time, giving Nigeria a comfortable lead at the break.
Zambia tried to fight back in the second half, but the Super Falcons remained solid in defence. Oluwatosin Demehin added the fourth goal with a header, and Folashade Ijamilusi sealed the win by finishing off Ajibade’s cross.
Nigeria are yet to concede a goal in the tournament, underlining their strong defence and determination.
The nine-time champions have never lost a WAFCON semi-final and will now face the winner of the South Africa versus Senegal match as they aim for another title.
