Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie eyes Paris Olympics qualification
Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has expressed her determination to help Nigeria secure qualification for the 2024 Olympic games in Paris, marking a potential return to the prestigious sporting event after 16 years.
Despite Nigeria’s absence from the Olympics in recent years, Nnadozie remains optimistic about the team’s chances, especially after their impressive performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Nigeria’s journey to Olympic qualification has been challenging, with Equatorial Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire thwarting their previous attempts. However, the Super Falcons have already eliminated Ethiopia in the qualifying series for Paris 2024 and now face a crucial showdown against Cameroon.
Speaking about the upcoming clash, Nnadozie acknowledged Cameroon as formidable opponents but expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to emerge victorious. She emphasized the importance of staying focused, working hard, and maintaining unity within the team.
“It’s a very tough encounter awaiting us against Cameroon,” Nnadozie stated. “They’re a very good team, composed of very experienced players. We need to be cautious, but I have great confidence in my team.”
Despite past victories against Cameroon, Nnadozie emphasized the need for the Super Falcons to remain grounded and not underestimate their opponents. She stressed the importance of rigorous training and unity to secure a positive outcome in the upcoming matches.
“We shouldn’t dwell on our past victories against them,” Nnadozie cautioned. “We need to stay focused, train harder, work harder, and stick together. By doing so, we can beat them, I believe.”
