Super Falcons learn opponents in WAFCON 2024 Qualifiers
Nigeria set to face minnows in preliminary qualifiers
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been drawn against Sao Tome & Principe in their WAFCON 2024 preliminary qualifiers, as the West African giants seek a tenth continental crown.
Ranked #1 in Africa despite finishing fourth at the 2022 WAFCON in Morocco, the Super Falcons received a favourable draw and will be up against minnows Sao Tome & Principe for a place in the second round. Whichever team goes through will face one of Liberia or Cape Verde in the second qualifying round.
For finishing first and third in the last edition of the competition, South Africa and Zambia have drawn byes in the first round of the qualifiers. The Banyana Banyana will face the winner of the clash between Eswatini and Burkina Faso, while the Copper Ladies of Zambia will face one of Angola or Sudan.
The first round matches are scheduled to take place between 18th and 26th of September, while the second round matches will take place between November 27th and December 5th.
The Super Falcons are currently in Australia where they are preparing for their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign, with their opener in less than two weeks.
