APPEARED IN ALL EDITIONS SINCE 1991: The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been consistent participants at the FIFA Women’s World Cup since 1991.
During this time, Nigeria has reached the Round of 16 three times, with a quater-final spot in 1999 the countries best in history.
AS MANY AS ELEVEN DEBUTANTS: Eleven of the 23 Super Falcon players for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be making their debuts at the tournament.
They are: Glory Ogbonna, Gift Monday, Toni Payne, Rofiat Imuran, Christy Ucheibe, Tosin Demehin, Ifeoma Onumonu, Michelle Alozie, Deborah Abiodun, Jennifer Echegini, and Ijeoma Okoronkwo.
AFRICA’S BEST IN THEIR RANK: The Super Falcons have Africa’s best, Asisat Oshoala in their rank to further cement their place as the highest ranked female team in Africa.
The FC Barcelona Feminine star has played in two FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments and will arrive with so much experience.
SIXTH CLOUD CHASING SKIPPER: 40-year old Super Falcons skipper Onome Ebi will be attending her sixth FIFA Women’s World Cup Competition.
The defender has 14 World Cup caps and looks destined for more as a key figure in Randy Waldrum’s team.
YOUNG PLAYERS: Nigeria have handed invitation to youngsters from the U-20 team to complement the experience in the side.
For age, 19-year old Rofiat Imuran is the youngest member of the team.
TALL PLAYERS : Only Canada (169.2Cm) boast of taller players than Nigeria in group A. The Super Falcons boast an average height of 168.78 cm, followed by the Republic of Ireland at 168.56 cm, while the Australian average is 160 cm.
TEN WORLD CUP TESTED PLAYERS: The Super Falcons have a refreshed squad from the last edition. Only ten players are returning from the previous edition in 2019.
26.3 AGE AVERAGE: The average age of the present Super Falcons squad is 26.3. This is slightly older than the Nigerian team to the 2019 World Cup in France, which had a average age of 25.4.
