Super Falcons overcome Cape Verde to book 2024 WAFCON spot
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have overcome the final qualifying round challenge by Cape Verde to book a 2024 WAFCON spot.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria faced Cape Verde in Praia in the second-leg and came from behind to win 1-2 on Tuesday evening.
Second half goals from Esther Okoronkwo and Rasheedat Ajibade scored to better the 8th minute strike by Ivan Moreira for the hosts.
Nigeria went into the second-leg high in confidence after a 5-0 win in the first-leg.
Cape Verde however did go 1-0 up in the 8th minute in the 2nd-leg to fan slim hopes of a comeback.
In the second half, Esther Okoronkwo who was introduced for Uchenna Kanu levelled scores for Nigeria in the 62nd minute.
Rasheedat Ajibade completed the comeback with a stoppage time match-winner to seal a 1-2 win for the Justin Madugu tutored Super Falcons.
That result means the Super Falcons book the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations spot with a 7-1 aggregate win over Cape Verde.
Morocco will host the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Nigeria has participated in every edition of the WAFCON, emerging champion on eleven occasions.
