Super Falcons skipper Ajibade Shines in Atlético Madrid’s Copa de la Reina Victory
Nigeria’s Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, was the star of the show as she helped Atlético Madrid secure a 2-0 extra-time win over Cacereño in the Copa de la Reina quarterfinals.
Despite Atlético controlling possession, the game remained 0-0 after the usual 90 minutes, with a potential goal ruled out for offside.
Ajibade broke the deadlock in the 116th minute, taking advantage of a defensive mistake as Cacereño failed to clear a cross from the right. The Nigerian forward was quick to react, tapping the ball in to give Atlético the lead.
Just two minutes later, Sheila Pinto made sure of the win, scoring to secure Atlético’s place in the semifinals of Spain’s top women’s cup competition.
Ajibade, who came on in the 64th minute to replace Tatiana Pinto, scored her first Copa de la Reina goal of the season and made an immediate impact.
With six goals and one assist in 14 Liga F matches this season, Ajibade has been in fine form for Atlético.
Next, Atlético Madrid will focus on their upcoming league match against Deportivo La Coruña on February 16, 2025.
