Super Falcons to camp in Spain ahead of Paris Olympics
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has organized a pre-tournament training camp in Spain for the Super Falcons, scheduled from July 5 to 16, in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
According to BSNSports.com.ng, which cited NigeriaFootball.ng, the NFF has sent out invitation letters to the players to train in Spain, helping them acclimatize to the weather conditions in France.
Initially, the nine-time African champions were supposed to hold a training camp, either foreign or local, during the FIFA women’s international window from May 28 to June 4. During this period, coach Randy Waldrum intended to conduct open screenings for new additions to the squad.
During their stay in Spain, the Super Falcons are set to face one of the high-profile teams in Group A, which includes hosts France, Canada, New Zealand, and Colombia. Additionally, the team is expected to play a Grade A friendly match on July 15, just one day before departing for the tournament in France.
The Super Falcons are making their first return to the Olympics in 16 years after a tense 1-0 aggregate victory over reigning African champions South Africa in April. In the Paris Olympics, which will take place from July 25 to August 10, the Super Falcons are drawn in Group C against reigning world champions Spain, Japan, and South American champions Brazil.
The West African team will kick off their campaign against Brazil at Stade de Bordeaux on July 25, followed by a match against Spain three days later in Nantes, and concluding with a game against Japan on July 31 at the same venue.
