Super Falcons want South Africa revenge in Abuja – Rasheedat Ajibade declares

Atletico Madrid Femenino and Super Falcons star, Rasheedat Ajibade, has declared that the Nigerian team will seek revenge against the South Africa team when they faceoff in a 2024 Paris Olympic games qualifier today.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form for her Spanish club side this season, scoring five goals and setting up four others from a position on the left wing.

Ajibade has been designated as the Falcons skipper post world cup and was in action over two legs as Nigeria sealed a 1-0 victory over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.

After the win over Cameroon, Nigeria was drawn against South Africa in the last hurdle in their quest to seal a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic games.

The Super Falcons lost when both sides met at the Women’s African Cup of Nations in 2022, and will want to avoid a defeat in either of the two legs over the next few days.

“I think for me, it’s a revenge time for us because it’s a tough match against them. Right now we want to compete at the Olympics and to get there, we have to defeat some of the best teams to show that we can play amongst the best,” Ajibade said in the pre-match conference.

The first leg of the two-legged tie will be played at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Friday, April 5. The reverse fixture will be held at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Tuesday, April 9.

The winner of the tie will be drawn into Group C at the Olympics, joining Spain, Brazil and Japan.
