Supporters Club to Sponsor Akwa Ibomites to 2025 AFCON in Morocco

The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigeria Eagles Supporters Club (NESC) has announced plans to sponsor football fans from the state to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, as part of its push to promote sports tourism and greater participation in national supporters’ activities.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, on Tuesday in Uyo, the State Chairman of NESC, Engineer OtoAbasi Ntia, encouraged football lovers in Akwa Ibom to join the national supporters’ body to benefit from its international opportunities.
Engineer Ntia, who visited with the State Secretary, Mr. Melford Asuquo, and Patron, Mr. Amadu Akpan, revealed that the chapter has concluded arrangements to sponsor 20 Akwa Ibom football fans with free flight tickets to the AFCON tournament in Morocco. He appealed to the state government for support in accommodation, feeding, and logistics throughout the competition.
He described the Nigeria Eagles Supporters Club as a unified national platform that rallies passionate Nigerians behind national teams through chants, music, colours, and strong presence at international tournaments. He added that the Akwa Ibom chapter is known for discipline, coordination, and impressive mobilisation during Super Eagles home matches at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
According to Engineer Ntia, membership in the club comes with several benefits, including opportunities to travel across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond for football tourism, enhanced networking, and the chance to promote Akwa Ibom culture at national and international events.
As part of efforts to create awareness, the NESC Akwa Ibom chapter has also scheduled a novelty football match against Akwa Ibom All-Stars International. The event is set for Sunday, 23 November 2025, at the West Itam Secondary School football pitch by 3:00 p.m., and aims to promote unity, entertainment, and support for the club’s fundraising efforts ahead of the Morocco trip.
Responding, the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, commended the Supporters Club for its commitment to Nigeria’s national teams. He described the initiative as a positive step towards promoting sports tourism and giving Akwa Ibom fans global exposure.
“This is a wonderful initiative. Those selected will not only travel to watch AFCON but will also showcase Akwa Ibom State to the world. The administration of Pastor Umo Eno is intentional about promoting sports tourism in line with the ARISE Agenda, and we will identify with this club as it continues mobilising sports enthusiasts to support our national teams,” he said.
He assured that Governor Umo Eno’s administration remains committed to supporting the Super Eagles whenever they play in Uyo.
