Swimmer Lazar Dukic tragically dies at 2024 Games
CrossFit has confirmed the tragic death of Serbian athlete Lazar Dukic during a swimming event at the 2024 CrossFit Games in Texas.
The 28-year-old athlete went underwater at Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth on Thursday morning and failed to resurface. In response, CrossFit released a statement expressing their deep sorrow: “We are devastated by the passing of Lazar Dukic. Our hearts are with Lazar’s entire family, friends, and fellow athletes.”
The organization has pledged full cooperation with authorities and support for Dukic’s family during this difficult time.
Dukic, who was highly regarded in the CrossFit community, held the third-highest ranking in Serbia and was 88th worldwide. He had recently won first place at the European CrossFit semi-final.
As a mark of respect, CrossFit suspended all events for the remainder of Thursday. The competition is expected to resume as scheduled on Friday.
