Taiwo Awoniyi joins Nottingham Forest’s pre-season camp in Spain

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has rejoined his Nottingham Forest teammates at their pre-season camp in Spain after a brief period on the sidelines due to an injury.

Since his transfer from Union Berlin two years ago, Awoniyi has faced significant injury challenges. Two seasons ago, a groin injury kept him out of 17 games, and last season, he missed 18 games due to the same issue. These injury problems have hindered his performance, particularly towards the end of last season.

Despite these setbacks, the 26-year-old striker appeared to have regained full fitness over the summer, sharing images of himself engaged in training drills.

However, his absence from Nottingham Forest’s first pre-season game against Chesterfield raised concerns. Coach Nuno Espirito Santo disclosed that Awoniyi missed the match due to a slight injury.

Contrary to earlier reports suggesting Awoniyi might miss the pre-season camp in Spain, Nottingham Forest shared a video showing him participating in the camp. While it is unclear if he has fully recovered, his presence in Spain is a positive sign.

If fit, Awoniyi is expected to feature in the remaining pre-season matches against Millwall, Elche, Villarreal, and Olympiacos.

Nottingham Forest will kick off their Premier League campaign with a match against Bournemouth at the City Ground.
