Taiwo Awoniyi Returns as Nottingham Forest Beat Tottenham 2-1

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi made his return for Nottingham Forest on Monday night as they secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Both Awoniyi and fellow Super Eagles player Ola Aina had been out for two weeks with minor injuries. Going into the game, it was uncertain if either would be fit enough to feature.

When the team line-ups were released, Awoniyi was named on the bench, while Aina did not make the matchday squad.

Forest started the game strongly and took the lead after just five minutes through Elliot Anderson. Five minutes later, Chris Wood thought he had made it 2-0, but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Wood eventually doubled Forest’s lead in the 16th minute, heading home a cross from Anthony Elanga. After that, Forest dropped deeper, looking to hit Spurs on the counter, and they went into the break with a two-goal lead.

Tottenham controlled most of the second half but struggled to create clear chances. Awoniyi came on in the 76th minute for Wood and mostly helped defensively rather than going forward.

Richarlison pulled one back for Tottenham in the 86th minute, setting up a tense finish. Spurs pushed for an equaliser, but Forest stayed strong at the back to hold on for the win.
