Taiwo Awoniyi’s 19th and 20th goals of the season earn Union Berlin Europa League spot
Taiwo Awoniyi has delivered the goals that secured a Europa League slot for Union Berlin after their 3-2 win in a Bundesliga game against Bochum on Saturday.
The Super Eagles striker scored his 19th and 20th goals of the season to ensure Union Berlin finished 5th on the Bundesliga table and a place in the 2022/2023 Europa League.
Grischa scored the first goal of the game in the 5th minute of the game, Taiwo Awoniyi converted from a spot-kick to increase Berlin’s lead and for his 14th league goal of the season.
Union Berlin ended the first half on high and two goals up.
But Bochum pulled one back 10 minutes after the restart through Simon Zoller before substitute Eduard Loewen equalized for the visitors in the 79th minute of the game.
Union Berlin would not give up and were rewarded with an 88th-minute strike from Taiwo Awoniyi, the Nigerian striker found a ball just outside the box after a mixed-up from Bochum defender involving one of Awoniyi’s teammates.
The former Liverpool striker controlled the ball with his chest, then lifted it with his right before finishing with his left foot.

It was his 15th league goal and his 20th in all competition this season as Union Berlin secured a Europa League slot.
In all competitions this season, Taiwo Awoniyi scored 20 goals and assisted 3 goals in 43 games.
