Tanzania Reach Africa Cup of Nations Knockout Stage for First Time in 45 Years

Tanzania have reached the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since their debut 45 years ago, after coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Tunisia in Rabat.

Tunisia took the lead just before half-time when Ismael Gharbi converted a penalty. Tanzania responded early in the second half through Feisal Salum to secure the crucial point in the Moroccan capital.

Defender Dickson Job was among those celebrating Tanzania’s historic qualification at the Rabat Olympic Stadium.

Despite still seeking their first win in four AFCON appearances, Tanzania advanced to the round of 16 thanks to two draws and one defeat in the group stage. They edged out Angola on goals scored to claim one of the four spots reserved for the best third-placed teams.

Tunisia finished second in Group C with four points, five behind group winners Nigeria.
