Team Nigeria misses final despite setting new National record in Mixed Relay

Team Nigeria’s mixed relay team of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Emmanuel Ojeli, and Patience Okon George narrowly missed out on the final at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

They finished 9th overall, despite setting a new National Record with a time of 3:11.99.

The race began with a strong performance from Samuel Ogazi, who had a fast start and a strong finish in the last 50 meters. He handed over to Ella Onojuvwevwo, who led until the last 70 meters when Lieke Klaver from the Netherlands overtook her.

Emmanuel Ojeli ran a standout leg with a split time of 44.73 seconds, moving Nigeria into second place. However, Patience Okon George struggled in the final 30 meters, allowing Italy to claim the last automatic spot for the final.

Nigeria finished 4th in their heat behind Great Britain (3:10.61), the Netherlands (3:10.81), and Italy (3:11.59), with a time of 3:11.99. They fell just short of making the final, as only the top 8 teams advance.
