American teenager Coco Gauff booked her place in her maiden Grand Slam final after easing past Italy’s Martina Trevisan in straight sets in their semifinal at the 2022 French Open in Paris. The 18-year-old beat Trevisan 6-3 6-1 in the semifinal at Stade Roland Garros.
Coco Gauff made her professional debut at only 14 years old and only graduated High School just as the French Open was about to commence. She came to prominence for a win over Venus Williams at Wimbledon in 2019. The prodigy has not dropped a single set en route to the French Open final. Reaching the final has assured her of a significant rise in the WTA rankings, with the 18-year-old set to move 10 places from 23rd to 13th in the world, her highest-ever ranking.
In the other semi-final, world number one Iga Swiatek continued her dominance of women’s tennis by claiming a straight-sets win over Daria Kasatkina to reach the final of the 2022 French Open. The 21-year-old has now won 34 consecutive matches, equalling the legendary Serena Williams as the female player with the second-most consecutive wins since 2000.
The Pole claimed a 6-2 6-1 win over 20th seed Kasatkina to set up a date with Gauff in the final. She will look to win her second French Open crown and equal Venus Williams for the most consecutive wins in women’s tennis since 2000.
