Ten Hag insists Onana is a great goalkeeper
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is unwavering in his endorsement of goalkeeper Andre Onana, whom he considers to be a great talent with the potential to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
The Cameroonian international recently faced criticism following a series of errors that contributed to Manchester United’s 3-2 home defeat to Galatasaray in their Champions League Group A second game.
Onana‘s performance came under scrutiny after earlier mistakes in the group stage opener, where his errors played a role in Bayern Munich’s 3-2 victory at the Allianz Arena.
In the match against Galatasaray, Onana made notable errors that led to his side being reduced to ten men. His errant pass to Casemiro resulted in a red card for the Brazilian midfielder and a penalty for Galatasaray, although the spot-kick was ultimately missed by Mauro Icardi.
Nevertheless, Icardi later found the net for the winning goal, another situation where Onana could have performed better.
Despite these challenges, Erik Ten Hag, who had previously worked with Onana at Ajax, remains a staunch supporter of the Cameroonian goalkeeper. He expressed his unwavering support, stating, “I will encourage Onana, I will back him — I will support him. He’s a great goalkeeper. He can be one of the best in the world. We have already witnessed Onana’s remarkable abilities and his resilient personality. He will bounce back; I’m sure of it.”
Ten Hag’s endorsement underscores his belief in Onana’s potential to overcome recent setbacks and continue his journey toward becoming one of the world’s top goalkeepers.
