Terem Moffi opens 2023-24 account as Nice defeat Strasbourg
Former Lorient man nets first goal of the season
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi scored his first goal of the season to help OGC Nice pick up a 2-0 win over Strasbourg in their French Ligue 1 clash.
Having completed a permanent transfer to Les Aiglons this summer, Moffi had failed to find the net in his previous three league appearances this season after a brilliant 2022-23 season.
Former Nice manager Patrick Vieira was facing his former club as manager for the first time in his career and was looking to pick up a win over them.
Nice opened the scoring on the cusp of half-time after a keenly-contested opening 45 minutes through Algerian right-back Youcef Atal, who scored a brilliant goal to give his side the lead in front of their fans.
Thirty minutes into the second half, Moffi added his name to the scoresheet in typical fashion. The big striker showed his counterattacking quality as he latched onto a through ball from Jean-Clair Todibo before slotting the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper to double his side’s lead.
Nice held on to record a deserved win, their second of the season. They have not lost in seven league matches under Vieira, as well. Moffi, who was left out of the Super Eagles squad to represent Nigeria in this month’s international break.
