‘They paid me 75,000 while on paper i was earning 250,000’ – Ambrose Vanzekin reveals why he left Bendel Insurance

Former Nigerian junior international Ambrose Vanzekin, has shed light on his reasons for resigning from his position as goalkeeper trainer at Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Bendel Insurance.

Vanzekin, in an exclusive interview with Naija Footballers on Instagram, cited poor compensation as the primary factor behind his decision to leave the club.

Vanzekin revealed that he had been paid ₦75,000 per month for nearly three years, a salary he described as insufficient given his contributions to the club. While his compensation was reportedly increased to ₦250,000 after a board reshuffle, he noted that this raise was only “on paper” and never reflected in his actual earnings.

“I resigned from Bendel Insurance as a goalkeeper trainer on September 4 after giving them four weeks’ notice,” Vanzekin said. “I was being paid ₦75,000 monthly for almost three years, which was increased to ₦250,000 on paper after the board change, but never reflected in my salary.”

The former goalkeeper expressed frustration at the disparity between his salary and those of the players he worked with, many of whom earned between ₦500,000 and ₦700,000.

“Players were being paid ₦500,000 to ₦700,000, while I was getting a peanut,” Ambrose Vanzekin lamented. “It was a struggle, and I couldn’t continue.”

Vanzekin’s decision to leave Bendel Insurance comes after a notable football career. He was part of the Nigerian Flying Eagles squad that participated in the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in the Netherlands, and he also represented Nigeria at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, where the team won silver.
