Thiago Silva shares update on Chelsea future
Chelsea’s veteran defender Thiago Silva has hinted at an impending decision regarding his future with the club, following their loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final.
The 39-year-old Brazilian, visibly emotional after the defeat, disclosed that fans would soon learn whether he will extend his stay or bid farewell to Stamford Bridge.
Silva, who is expected to depart the Blues at the end of the season after a four-year tenure, shared his sentiments in an exclusive interview with Hayters TV. “You will know in the coming days. I don’t want to say anything now with my head in defeat, a bit of sadness. But sooner or later it’s going to happen. The news will come out,” he expressed.
Pressed further on his future plans, Silva affirmed, “I already have made a decision in my head. I don’t think it’s cool that a lot of people talk about it. I’m sorry. Soon you will know.”
Earlier this year, Silva hinted at the twilight of his career, acknowledging, “We know it’s almost over, but it’s not the end yet. So pick the right time. I’m still able to maintain a good performance, my numbers are good, and this gives me peace of mind to continue. Now, the future belongs to God.”
Renowned for his astute defensive prowess, Silva joined Chelsea in 2020 from Paris Saint-Germain and quickly endeared himself to the Blues faithful. Reflecting on his time at Stamford Bridge, he remarked, “It felt like love at first sight.”
With 149 appearances and nine goals for the West London club, Silva harbours dreams of seeing his children follow in his footsteps at Chelsea. Despite rumours linking him with a return to Brazil, Silva previously emphasized his family’s contentment in London.
