Thibaut Courtois to Miss Real Madrid’s Next Two Matches
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has not yet rejoined the squad and will miss at least the next two matches—against Leganés in La Liga and Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey.
The Belgian shot-stopper is focusing on his recovery and hopes to return for next week’s home match against Valencia. If all goes well, he could be ready to start when Real Madrid face Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals the following week.
In Courtois’ absence, backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will take his place. Lunin was already expected to feature in the Copa del Rey semi-final against Real Sociedad, and his inclusion against Leganés this weekend will help him gain more match fitness and confidence.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and his coaching staff are not worried about Courtois’ condition and expect him to be fully fit for the crucial games ahead.
