‘ This is just the beginning ‘ – Samuel Chukwueze reacts to La Liga award win
Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze in reaction to his Best African player in the Spanish La Liga award win has pledged that ‘ This is just the beginning’ as he is motivated to do more.
The 24-year old received the award as Best African player in Spain’s top-flight for the 2022/2023 season on Tuesday June 6, following a spectacular season at Villareal.
Samuel Chukwueze scored 13-goals and assisted 11 others for the Yellow Submarines in the just concluded season.
In his reaction to the honour, his first since moving to Spain in 2018, Chukwueze said ” I feel so happy to win this award,”
“I’ve worked very hard this season, but I want to thank my teammates for making it possible. Without them this wouldn’t have been possible for me, the coach [Quique Setién] too.”
Chukwueze was a bit-part player under former manager Unai Emery but has had more stability since Qique Setien took charge at Villareal.
On the impact the former Barcelona manager has had on his game, Chukwueze praised Setien for believing in his abilities.
” When the coach believes in you, and gives you the confidence to play and enjoy yourself, it really motivates you.
“ But I think I can still do more, I want to continue working hard. I’m still young, so I’m still learning.
