AFCON 2021Super Eagles

Why Nigeria lost to Tunisia – Okocha

Austin Okocha has offered his thought on why he felt the Super Eagles of Nigeria were beaten by the Carthage of Eagles in the AFCON round of 16.

Nigeria who are heavy favourites to win the title were shocked by Youssef Msakni 47th minutes strike. Substitute Alex Iwobi was also sent off in the 66rd minutes less than 7 minutes after coming on.

Nigeria gave everything but their numerical disadvantage didn’t do them any favour as they bowed out in the round of 16 to a COVID-19 ravaged Tunisia.

“Lack of leadership,” replies Okocha when asked why he felt Nigeria lost.

“At no point was there a player who wanted to take responsibility.

“Fire them on and keep them going, they were all playing on their own leaving each other to sort things out themselves.”

Nigeria will now focus on qualifications for world cup where Ghana is waiting while Tunisia will play Burkina Faso in the quarterfinal of the AFCON 2021.
