This shows why we were unhappy with Rohr – Okocha
Austin Okocha has said the Super Eagles AFCON opener win against the Pharaoh of Egypt the reason former coach Gernot Rohr was sacked.
Nigeria were entirely dominant as they ran away with a 1-0 win against Egypt in their first group D game on Tuesday.
Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal of the game entirely dominated by Nigeria from the first whistle to the last.
And Okocha who was on punditry duty with Super Sport praised the team and said the manner at which Egales won showed why Rohr was sacked.
Rohr was sacked few weeks to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations and replaced by interim coach Augustin Eguavoen and Okocha said it was the right the decision and the outcome showed why.
“This win and the manner at which we did it showed why we sacked Gernot Rohr.
“Not saying he didn’t try his best but technically we were not good under him.
“Today, we were entirely dominant in the attack, defend , stamped our authority and technically better than the Pharaoh’s of Egypt, kudos to Eguavoen.
“We know our football, every Nigerian fan is coach, we know what is required and it was clear to see today.
“Same personality or less equipped with the players missing but we saw a solid Nigerian today.
“I like the fact that Austin Eguavoen knows what he wants, expects from the players he put out their.”
Nigeria had 15 shot but 5 were on target while Egypt only managed 4 shots and only 2 were on target.
Nigeria with three points go into the second game of the group against Sudan full of confidence on Saturday.
