Thomas Tuchel explains why he accepted England Job
Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has accepted the role of England national team coach, replacing Lee Carsley, who took over after Gareth Southgate’s seven-year tenure ended. In his first press conference, Tuchel explained his decision to take the England job and reject the chance to manage Manchester United.
Tuchel was approached by INEOS, the group linked to Manchester United, as the club considered replacing Erik ten Hag following a poor season where United finished eighth in the Premier League. However, the German coach turned down the offer and decided to join the England Football Association (FA) instead.
When asked why he made that choice, Tuchel explained:
“I liked the idea here at the FA and the way their CEO, Mark, presented it. This was a decision for this job, not against any club.”

Tuchel, being German, has faced criticism from those who believe the England manager should be English. But he assured fans of his dedication:
“I’m proud to be here, proud to represent England. I want to put the second star on this shirt.”
He emphasised his passion for English football and expressed his desire to lead England to success:
“We will work hard for the biggest target—making our dream come true at the 2026 World Cup. I just have a German passport, but I love working and living here. I hope to show everyone how proud I am to be England’s manager.”
