A WIN TO PUT WORLD CUP QUALIFICATION HOPES BACK ON TRACK
After failing to defeat Lesotho in Uyo on matchday one, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be under pressure to win and get their 2026 World Cup qualification hopes back on track.
A draw or defeat will see the Eagles hand table-topping South Africa additional advantage in the race for the group’s sole automatic qualification ticket.
As rightly said by Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh, ” Qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is non-negotiable” in the minds of Nigerians and so the Eagles cannot afford to stutter like in the 1-1 draw vs Lesotho in Uyo.
Nigerians want the team to win. A draw will be considered a bad result.
A NEW GOALKEEPER IN GOALÂ
Nigerians will love to see a new goalkeeper in goal but this desire looks bleak as Jose Peseiro doesn’t look prepared to throw-in Ojo Olorunleke or Amas Obasogie in place of Francis Uzoho.
Uzoho has endured severe criticisms for his performances during games since 2022.
In the last game vs Lesotho, the Omonia Nicosia failed to deal with a cross and was also hapless as the rolled into the Eagles goal.
He has concedded five times in his last three appearances for Nigeria and looks to be short of confidence.
Most Nigerians will be happy to see a new man between the sticks but their hopes here is 10%.
A SYSTEM TO TURN POSSESSION TO GOALSÂ
Nigerians will be happy to see the Super Eagles play with a system that will have their ball possession lead to goals.
The Eagles under Peseiro have developed into great ball-passers from the back, but against Lesotho, poor decisions in the final third hurt their aspirations.
This time, Peseiro should deploy a system to get goals in the abscence of talisman, Victor Osimhen.
If ditching the possession crave will produce goals, Nigerians will be happy.
