Tobi Amusan on track for historic fourth title at Nigeria Olympic trials
Hurdling queen Tobi Amusan has effortlessly qualified for the final at the Nigeria Olympic Trials, setting her on course to win a historic fourth consecutive national title.
The trials, holding at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin from June 16-18, will determine the athletes representing Nigeria at the Paris Olympic Games and the African Championships in Cameroon.
Amusan, who holds the world record in the women’s 100m hurdles, breezed through her semifinal heat with an unofficial time of 12.82 seconds. This impressive performance places her as a strong favorite for the final.
In the second semifinal, Faith Osamuyi clocked the fastest time of the day at 12.76 seconds, positioning herself as a serious contender. Meanwhile, US-based Adaobi Tamugbo, who has the second-fastest time by a Nigerian hurdler this season at 13.02 seconds, remains a potential threat.
As the final approaches on Day 2 of the trials, all eyes will be on Amusan. A victory would make her the first Nigerian hurdler in history to win four consecutive national titles, further cementing her status as a trailblazer in Nigerian athletics.
