Top five stars expected to shine at the 2023 AFCON

As the anticipation builds for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, football fans are eager to witness the performances of some of the continent’s top talents.

Here are five stars expected to shine at the tournament which gets underway on January 13, 2024:

1. Victor Osimhen – Nigeria, Napoli:  Victor Osimhen, ranked 8th in the Ballon d’Or standings and recently awarded the African Player of the Year, enters the AFCON on the back of a remarkable year. 3. Sadio Mane – Senegal, Al Nassr: Despite his move to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Sadio Mane returns to the AFCON as a crucial figure for Senegal, the reigning champions. The former Liverpool star will play a pivotal role in Senegal’s quest to defend their AFCON crown.

Silas Mvupa Katompa – Congo DR, VFB Stuttgart: Silas Mvupa Katompa, a talented winger playing for VFB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, has been instrumental in his team’s strong performance in the league. With three goals and one assist in eight starts, the dynamic winger is set to lead Congo DR’s attack at the AFCON.
